Greece and Romania
Finally an update! Some of you
have sent me e-mails or instant messages wondering what the heck was going on, I would like to Thank You for your interest!
Once you read this installment, you will understand, after a terrible
crash while on a site seeing flight in Athens, once I recovered from the coma, I still have been laid up in a Greek hospital
unable to move my arms or legs, I'm okay now though.
Actually I have just been into some other things lately, I'll
tell you honestly, as much as I love flying this simulation, I have been finding myself getting a little burnt out on the
round the world flight, but I am still determined to complete the trip, even if it takes a little longer, and updates to Misadventures
occur a little less frequently.
I promise all of you loyal followers of this site that I will continue
according to my original plan until I have completed this trip.
Greece
So now it was time to make my first stops in Europe, (depending on
whether or not you consider Turkey to be part of Europe).
Anyways, I decided to fly a heavy from Istanbul to Athens Greece, I
wandered through my hangar and came out with a KLM 747-400, I don't know if KLM actually flys this route and I don't rightly
give a crap, this is make believe anyways right?
The flight went perfectly and I had a great landing, there was not
much other traffic at all, I expected quite a bit considering that Athens is a pretty popular place.
I don't recall adding any scenery for this area, but the airport was very
detailed and nice looking, with taxiway signs and gate markings on the concrete and such.
I had this cool idea that I would search the internet and find some
Greek music to listen to while I was in this area, I found a live audio feed from Athens and what do I here? Wham! You know,
with George Michael, the 'I'm never gonna dance again' song? WTF??
I searched a little more and found some real Greek sounding music,
words that made absolutly no sense to me and twangy sounding guitars, perfect!
When the DJ talked it sounded a little like spanish, one thing I noticed
was that the windows media feed was constantly losing contact and having to re-establish the feed, this would not do.
Finally I found a E-Radion feed that worked perfectly and never lost contact.
I liked some of the music I heard but there was no way for me to know
who the heck was singing due to the fact that I don't understand Greek talking, so even if they did announce the artist between
the tunes, I wouldn't even have known.
Once I got bored with listening to Greek radio, I figured I would go
explore the city, WOW, Athens Greece, isn't this supposed to be one of the coolest places in the world? Should be plenty to
see here, so I borrowed a Kingair and took off to see what I could find.
The first thing that caught my eye was a good sized arena or coliseum,
I did a couple of fly-bys and snapped some photos, I then noticed some ancient looking buildings on top of a small mountain,
I assumed this to be the acropolis, I only knew this from back when I watched Yanni live at the acropolis.
I flew around it a few times and took some photos, then decided to
do a real close fly-by and get some real good close up shots, this of course is when disaster struck.
It was kind of wierd because I didn't actually realize that I had clipped
the acropolis with a wing tip until I discovered I had no control over my aircraft, the next thing I knew I was tumbling through
the air and spiraling into the ground, I got some great shots of the incident! Normally I forget to take pictures of the good
crashes but not this time.
So there I was once again, in a foreign hospital in a light coma, with
multiple broken bones, after a couple of surgerys to put my face back in it's original place I was GOOD AS NEW!! and ready
to go crash into the next town.
I would like to thank all the cute little nurses for giving me my dailey
rub down with moisterizing lotions to keep my skin from drying out and also for keeping my happy stick erect.
No trip to Greece would be complete without visiting Mount Olympus,
I mean c'mon, that's where Zeus and all his party animal God friends hang out, so I had to go there and flip a thumbs up to
all the deities, besides that, my digital camera is named after this place.
Now you can laugh at me if you want, I'm not from this area, and I
know my world geography pretty good, but I really thought Mount Olympus was somewhere in the Athens area, I had to really
study my atlas to find that it is actually located far to the north, so I would just have to hop in a jet and fly to Thessaloniki,
this would take me right past Olympus and I could take a break to figure out where I would go next.
I don't remember what plane I took for this flight, I know that I wasn't
very impressed with Olympus and while I was on final approach to Thessaloniki the program froze up, this is only the first
or second time this has ever happened, poo!
Well, I wasn't going to make the flight again so I just called it good
and here I was in Thessaloniki, nothing to see here folks.
Romania
Now came the time when I had to decide a course of travel to visit
all the great places in Europe, I don't really know what made me decide to go with the decision to fly to Bucharest next,
but that's what I did.
The plane of choice was a Lufthansa 747-400, a meljet version, it was
a great trip with some nice scenery along the way, but for some reason that I never figured out, ATC decided to cancel me
while I was setting up for final approach into Bucharest, Oh well, I continued on my course and made my landing without any
further instructions from ATC, who needs 'em?
I taxied to a gate without any help from ground control, for some reason,
everyone wanted to ignore me in this city, screw 'em.
I took a Kingair up for a tour of the city and this is what I found...nothing.
So I headed back to the airport and seeing how busy this airport was compared
to Athens, I just slowly cruised along on the ground checking out the airliners, and that turned out to be the only cool thing
about Bucharest.
I guess that's it for this leg of my journey, I can't promise the next
update will come any quicker, all I can promise is that it will come, just be patient and enjoy the time you spend flying
around in FS2002 or 2004, depending on which you are currently using, I will be so happy to finish this trip and switch over
to 2004, hopefully this will happen before the release of FS2006!
